Course Outline:
This qualification is aimed at those who install doors, windows, conservatories or curtain walling. This is a Level 3 qualification and is aimed at apprentices who are experienced installers with experience of dealing with a wide range of issues including working with installations that have complex requirements, who are able to deal with all aspects of an installation, including the identification and rectification of technical problems. The qualification is at Level 3 and is ideal for apprentices looking to gain further qualifications as advanced installers and to take a supervisory role. The apprenticeship is a mix of theory and practical assessment delivered on a classroom and site based basis.
As part of your apprenticeship you will also work towards:
  • Level 3 Certificate in Glass Related Operations
  • NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Fenestration Installation
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English (if required)
  • Employer Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
NVQ Mandatory Units:
  • FI1 Maintain Health & Safety in the Fenestration Installation Working Environment
  • AG13 Identify and rectify technical problems in a Glass or Glass Related Working Environment
  • FIS2 Improve the work of the Organisation through the use of Resources, Communication and Working Relationships in a Glass or Glass Related Working Environment
  • CW1 Identify and Confirm Installation Requirements in Glass and Related Work

NVQ Optional Units – Group B:
  • FIS7 Install Conservatories
  • FI16 Remove and Install Box Sash Windows
  • FI17 Remove and Install Oriel Windows
  • CW4 Post Curtain Walling Activity
  • FI15 Install Bay Windows
  • CW6 Create Datum Points for Curtain Wall Installation
  • FI18 Remove and Install Roof Light Windows
  • FI14 Remove Bay Windows
  • CW7 Install Facetted, Structurally Glazed or Unitised Curtain Walling Systems

NVQ Optional Units – Group C:
  • AG12 Assess the quality of materials and components in a Glass or Glass Related Working Environment
  • FI11 Maintain/Repair Windows and Doors or Conservatories
  • FIS10 Control the Installation of Doors and Windows or Conservatories or Curtain Walling
  • AG2 Promote and maintain Health & Safety within the Glass or Glass Related Working Environment
  • AG18 Ensure Resources are available to meet Work Requirements in a Glass or Glass Related Working Environment

NVQ Optional Units – Group D:
  • CW2 Install Curtain Walling Systems
  • FI8 Install Windows and Doors
  • FI10 Install Glass and/or Panels into Windows and Doors

NVQ Optional Units – Group E:
  • FIS1 Understanding the Building Regulations in the Fenestration Industry
  • FT8 Knowledge of Building Regulations and Legislation in Facades
