Course Outline:
This qualification is aimed at those who undertake work producing fabricated products such as windows, door frames and units, conservatories and framing used in curtain walling systems. This covers the processing and fabrication of frames by joining and assembly. You may also be involved in promoting Health and Safety in the fabrication working environment, identifying and rectifying technical issues, assessing the quality of the product at all stages of the process and monitoring the fabrication process. You may also be involved in setting up machinery and equipment and identifying improvements to working practises. The qualification is at Level 3 and is ideal for those who are experienced in this area and are capable of dealing with the wide range of issues involved in carrying out the fabrication of glass supporting structures and also involved in a supervisory role. The apprenticeship is a mix of theory and practical assessment delivered on a classroom and site based basis.
As part of your apprenticeship you will also work towards:
  • Level 3 Certificate in Glass Related Operations
  • NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Fenestration Surveying
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English (if required)
  • Employer Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
NVQ Mandatory Units:
  • Promote and Maintain Health & Safety within the Glass or Glass Related Working Environment
  • Improve the work of the organisation through the use of resources, communication and working relationships in a glass or glass related working environment.
  • Communicating and working with others in the glass and glass related working environment
NVQ Optional Units – Group 1:
  • Prepare equipment/machinery/tools for the fabrication of glass supporting structures
  • Apply coatings or treatments to products and materials used in the fabrication of glass supporting structures
  • Process materials for fabricating glass supporting structures
  • Fabricate glass framing/supporting systems by joining
  • Fabricate glass supporting systems by assembly
NVQ Optional Units – Group 2:
  • Set up equipment for operations in the fabrication of glass supporting systems
  • Monitor and control operations in a glass or glass related working environment
  • Identify and rectify technical problems in a glass or glass related working environment
  • Develop new work procedures in a glass or glass related working environment
  • Ensure resources are available to meet work requirements in a glass or glass related working environment
NVQ Optional Units – Group 3:
  • Check the quality of products used in the fabrication of glass supporting systems
  • Assess the quality of materials/components in a glass or glass related working environment
