Apprenticeship in Fabrication of Glass Supporting Structures NVQ Level 2 Certificate

Course Outline:

This qualification is aimed at those who undertake work to produce fabricated products such as door and window frames and units, conservatories, and glazing systems used in curtain walling etc. units in this qualification include the processing of materials, applying coatings and treatments and fabricating of frames by joining and assembly. It is not expected that candidates working in this area all to do the same activities: the qualification is structured to ensure that there is a high degree of flexibility in the qualification, although there are common units in the mandatory section of the qualification. The standard covers the most important aspects of the job.

This qualification is at level 2, although some OCF qualifications have units at different levels, and should be taken by those who are fully trained to deal with routine assignments. Candidates should require minimum supervision in undertaking the job. A further qualification that covers the Fabrication of Glass Supporting Systems at Level 3 is also available. Candidates for this qualification could be assessed in the context of fabricating windows and doors, curtain walling, screen walling, or conservatories. Candidates for this qualification will primarily be working in fabrication factories with non glass materials or semi finished products.

As part of your apprenticeship you will also:

  • Work towards your NVQ Level 2 in Fabrication of Glass Supporting Structures
  • Work towards your Functional Skills (if required)
  • Work towards the Employer Rights and Responsibilities qualification (ERR)
  • Work towards your Personal Learning Thinking Skills (PLTS)
Mandatory Units:
  • FGSS1 Maintain health and safety within the fabrication of glass supporting systems
  • AG3 Communicating and working with others in a glass or glass related working environment
  • FGSS3 Prepare equipment used in the fabrication of glass supporting systems
  • FGSS4 Locate, handle and position materials or components in the fabrication of glass supporting systems
  • FGSS10 Check the quality of products used in the fabrication of glass supporting systems
Optional Units:
  • FGSS5 Apply coatings or treatment to products and materials for use in the fabrication of glass supporting systems
  • FGSS6 Package and store fabricated glass supporting systems
  • FGSS7 Process materials for fabricating of glass supporting systems
  • FGSS8 Fabricate glass supporting systems by joining
  • FGSS9 Fabricate glass supporting systems by assembly
  • FGSS2 Cut Materials for the Fabrication of Glass Supporting Systems
