Apprentices normally start working towards a Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship. This will include a relevant knowledge-based qualification such as a C&G Diploma qualification, a NVQ work based qualification, Functional Skills English and Maths and ERR (Employer Rights and Responsibilities). On completion, this can lead on to an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) qualification. A Level 2 Apprenticeship is equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade C and above and a Level 3 Apprenticeship is equivalent to 2 A Level passes. In some apprenticeships, there is an option of progressing to Higher Apprenticeships at Level 4 and above, equivalent to a Foundation Degree.
